Ensures that the variety of life's choices and equal opportunities are available to all deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing people, through the following services: INFORMATION: * about available services * about new technologies for accessibility * about community supports and services * about working with people who are deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing * about issues relating to people who are deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing * about laws relating to the rights of people who are deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing REFERRAL: * to appropriate community supports and services * to resources for information SUPPORT: * in obtaining appropriate information and services * in consulting with service providers to modify programs or policies to make supports and services accessible TRAINING: * to deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing people, service providers, and others who are interested in deaf issues and issues related to hearing loss * in a variety of settings, including educational, medical, legal, law enforcement, and agencies providing services The Telecommunications Assistance Program (TAP) provides funds to people who meet income and hearing loss eligibility criteria to enable them to purchase special telecommunications devices, such as a TTY. Sign Language Interpreter Evaluation-- A team of qualified people evaluate the skills of an individual by using the Wisconsin Interpreting and Transliterating Assessment tool (WITA). This tool allows people who are deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing as well as service providers, to know the quality of the interpreting services they may receive. ACCOMMODATIONS FOR DISABILITIES: Reserved accessible parking is available. Interpreter is available.
