DOES YOUR CHILD OR YOUTH HAVE SPECIAL NEEDS?
DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS AND DON'T KNOW WHERE TO GET ANSWERS?
The Northern Regional Center for CYSHCN is dedicated to meeting families' needs through a statewide coordinated system of information, referral and follow up, family to family support and strong partnerships with providers in the Northern Region of Wisconsin.
A child or youth with a special health care need is anyone under the age of 21 with a physical, developmental, behavioral, or emotional condition that has or will probably last more than 12 months.
The condition must also:
* Restrict growth, development, or ability to engage in usual activities.
* Require specialized health care, psychological, or educational services of a type or amount beyond that required generally by children.
The Wisconsin program for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs is committed to promoting family to family support networks to assure that all individuals have access to supports in their community. The Northern Regional Center staff can help link families to supports that may be helpful to them at any given time whether that may be helping to locate a local support group, connecting a family with Parent to Parent of Wisconsin to be matched with another parent with similar experiences, providing written information on a specific issue or diagnosis, connecting with resources and programs in the community or just lending a listening ear and providing emotional support.
Our office is located in Wausau, Wisconsin within the Marathon County Health Department. We encourage families and providers to call, email or visit our office. Staff are available to problem solve and provide referrals to community, state and national resources to respond to each family with a child with special needs.
