About the Department of Health Services (DHS)
On July 1, 2008, the Department of Health and Family Services became the Department of Health Services and the new Department of Children and Families was created. The mission of the Department Of Health Services (DHS) is "Protecting and promoting the health and safety of the people of Wisconsin." The new agency will be able to focus specifically on making health care more affordable and accessible as people of Wisconsin. Among the many other things including a wide range of public health areas, DHS is responsible for:
